Artists working with communities: a facilitated discussion with François Matarasso

In August 2021 François Matarasso held a capacity building session for Culture Collective artists and projects, hosted by Katharine Wheeler and the Stove Network. The session explored the histories, intentions and strategies for community art, and included a series of provocations to encourage further discussion about building a community-rooted participatory creative project.

A video of the highlights of this session is shared here, in the hope that others may find it as thought-provoking and inspiring as we did. This recording is edited to remove the sections of discussion with Culture Collective members, but retains the prompts for discussion, so that you may use it to prompt conversations with your own partners. We have also made anonymised highlights of our discussion available to download.
